Root canal therapy is a procedure used to treat a tooth that has become infected or inflamed at the pulp, which is the soft tissue inside the tooth that contains nerves and blood vessels. This can occur as a result of deep decay, a crack or chip in the tooth, or trauma to the tooth. If left untreated, an infected or inflamed pulp can cause pain, swelling, and eventually lead to tooth loss.
During a root canal procedure, the infected or inflamed pulp is removed from the tooth, and the inside of the tooth is cleaned and sealed to prevent future infection. A crown or filling will then be placed on the tooth to restore its function and appearance.

The procedure usually takes one or two visits to complete, depending on the complexity of the case. During the first visit, the infected or inflamed pulp will be removed, and the tooth will be cleaned and sealed. A temporary filling will be placed on the tooth to protect it until the permanent restoration can be placed on the second visit.
After the root canal therapy, you may experience some mild discomfort or sensitivity for a few days, but this can be managed with over-the-counter pain medication.
