At Spring Dental Surgery, we offer a range of dental treatments to help you achieve optimal oral health. One of the most common treatments we offer is root canal therapy.

What is Root Canal Therapy?

Root canal therapy is a procedure used to treat a tooth that has become infected or inflamed at the pulp, which is the soft tissue inside the tooth that contains nerves and blood vessels. This can occur as a result of deep decay, a crack or chip in the tooth, or trauma to the tooth. If left untreated, an infected or inflamed pulp can cause pain, swelling, and eventually lead to tooth loss.

The Procedure

During a root canal procedure, the infected or inflamed pulp is removed from the tooth, and the inside of the tooth is cleaned and sealed to prevent future infection. A crown or filling will then be placed on the tooth to restore its function and appearance.

Our experienced endodontists (dentist who specialized in root canal therapy) will ensure that your root canal therapy is as comfortable as possible. We use the latest technology and techniques to ensure a successful treatment outcome.

The procedure usually takes one or two visits to complete, depending on the complexity of the case. During the first visit, the infected or inflamed pulp will be removed, and the tooth will be cleaned and sealed. A temporary filling will be placed on the tooth to protect it until the permanent restoration can be placed on the second visit.

After the root canal therapy, you may experience some mild discomfort or sensitivity for a few days, but this can be managed with over-the-counter pain medication.

We will provide you with detailed instructions on how to care for the tooth and tips to minimize any discomfort.

What causes root canal infections?

Root canal infections can be common without regular dental checkups and have various causes such as:

  • Crack or chip in the tooth
  • Deep decay
  • Leaky fillings
  • Repeated dental procedures on the tooth

If you have any of the above problems, you are at risk of a root canal infection. Maintaining a good level of oral hygiene can reduce and sometimes, stop the risk. Regular checkups can help identify and treat infections before they become serious.

At Spring Dental Surgery, we understand the importance of saving natural teeth whenever possible.

Root canal therapy is an effective and efficient way to save an infected or inflamed tooth, and we strive to provide the highest quality care to our patients.

If you are experiencing tooth pain or suspect you may need a root canal, please contact us to schedule a consultation.

I’m a new patient at the Spring Dental Practice and I’m so glad I registered with them. Everyone I have dealt with has been professional and friendly, from the lovely lady on the reception to Katie the dental therapist and Sorin the dentist. I’ve always been nervous of dental visits but not any more. I had old fillings removed and replaced and I was so relaxed I could have fallen asleep!
