Dental pain can be worrying and stressful, and we’re here to help put your mind at ease.
Dental emergencies can happen at any time and can range from a toothache to a broken tooth. They can be caused by injury, infection or decay. We understand that dental emergencies can be stressful and painful, and we are here to help.
Our highly trained and experienced team of dentists are available to provide prompt and efficient emergency dental care. We will make every effort to see you as soon as possible, often on the same day you call. We understand the importance of getting you out of pain and stabilizing your condition as soon as possible.
Toothaches
Toothaches generally don’t go away on their own. We recommend taking over-the-counter painkillers such as Paracetamol or Ibuprofen to reduce the pain. Applying a cold compress or rinsing your mouth with salt water can also help.
Abscesses
An abscess is a serious infection in the root of your tooth and causes pain and swelling on the infected side. You may require a root canal treatment to clean the infected area. If left untreated, a tooth may be lost or the infection can spread. Dental abscesses are severe and require immediate attention. If we are closed, call 111 or go to an out-of-hours dentist.
Chipped or broken tooth
A broken or chipped tooth can be sharp and it’s imperative to avoid touching it with your tongue and contact us as soon as possible to receive care.
Dislodged or extruded tooth
Any type of fall or trauma to the face can dislodge your tooth and dental care is essential immediately. Maintain the pain with over-the-counter medication and call our emergency dental line for immediate attention.
Knocked-out tooth
Any accident or fall can cause you to lose a tooth. In this instance, you need to protect the socket. Do this by locating the tooth and reinforcing it, gently not forcefully. However, if the tooth isn’t clean or you can’t reinsert, store the tooth in milk or a pot of your saliva and take it to the surgery. If a dentist sees you within an hour, we may be able to reattach your tooth.
Lost filling
A lost filling can expose unprotected parts of your tooth. If you’ve lost a filling, keep the area clean and avoid eating anything which can get trapped in the gap.
Lost crown
A similar process to a filling; ensure to keep it clean and use sensitive toothpaste to help.

I used to be scared to death of dentists for various reasons but since coming to the practice a couple of years ago and explaining my fears, I can honestly say I don’t feel nervous anymore and I am happy to have any treatments because I know she will be very thorough, caring and will take very good care of me. The nurses and reception staff are also very professional and helpful!

Leanne Ellis13 January 2024Basically my toothache started on new years eve. I thought it would be gone so put up with the pain. It took me a week before i started to take pain killers. By the following monday i got in touch with the dentist practice through email and rung them up to register and by the tuesday i had enough of the pain and could not cope with it. Got an emergency appointment for that afternoon, ended on antibiotics and ended up booking for the tooth to be take out the following monday. But by the friday i ended up emailing them for an earlier appointment for the saturday which was met. I just want to say the staff that dealt with me put me at ease even though i was in tears during the procedure. They put you at ease by telling what they are doing during the procedure and after the procedure. Especailly katy and think it was courtney ( i think that was her name) and bobby being gentle as the best as he could.
