If left untreated, an infected or inflamed pulp can cause pain, swelling, and eventually lead to tooth loss.
During a root canal procedure, the infected or inflamed pulp is removed from the tooth, and the inside of the tooth is cleaned and sealed to prevent future infection. A crown or filling will then be placed on the tooth to restore its function and appearance.

The procedure usually takes one or two visits to complete, depending on the complexity of the case.
